📝 Our Review

VeggieTales has been introducing children to biblical values since the early '90s, and The Star of Christmas is one of their finest outings. Set in Victorian London (think Dickens with vegetables), the story follows Cavis Appythart (Bob) and Millward Phelps (Larry) as they compete to create the ultimate Christmas spectacular. The humor operates on two levels — kids laugh at the slapstick and silly songs, while parents catch the cultural references and wit. Phil Vischer and Mike Nawrocki's voice work is as charming as ever. The animation, while simple, has an expressiveness that CGI-heavy productions often lack. The climactic scene, where a church nativity play outshines an elaborate theater production, delivers its message about simplicity and sincerity without being heavy-handed. The Silly Songs segment ('Lyle the Kindly Viking') is as randomly hilarious as fans expect. At 45 minutes, it's perfectly paced for young attention spans. A staple of Christian family Christmas viewing that earns its place honestly.
