📝 Our Review

Twenty-five years later, The Prince of Egypt remains DreamWorks' finest achievement and arguably the greatest animated religious film ever made. The parting of the Red Sea sequence alone justifies its existence — it's a moment of pure cinematic awe that still gives chills. Val Kilmer voices both Moses and God (a bold creative choice that works beautifully), and the supporting cast reads like a Hollywood phone book: Ralph Fiennes, Sandra Bullock, Jeff Goldblum, Patrick Stewart, Helen Mirren. The music is phenomenal. 'When You Believe' won the Academy Award, but the real standout is 'The Plagues,' a duet between Moses and Rameses that captures the tragedy of two brothers on opposite sides of divine judgment. Hans Zimmer's score is epic without being overwrought. What makes the film timeless is its willingness to engage with the darker elements of the Exodus story. The killing of the firstborn is depicted with appropriate horror. The film respects children enough to show them that faith stories involve real suffering and real stakes. A masterpiece that every family should own.
