📝 Our Review

Mel Gibson created one of the most visceral and unflinching portrayals of Christ's sacrifice ever put on film. Jim Caviezel's performance as Jesus is hauntingly committed — he endured real physical hardship during filming, and it shows in every frame. The Aramaic and Latin dialogue was a bold choice that actually works, stripping away any modern gloss and dropping you straight into first-century Jerusalem. Fair warning: this is not an easy watch. The violence is graphic and sustained, which has divided audiences since release. Some find it gratuitous, others see it as an honest depiction of what crucifixion actually involved. Where the film truly succeeds is in the smaller moments — the flashbacks to the Last Supper, Mary watching her son carry the cross. Those scenes carry more emotional weight than any amount of spectacle. Not for younger viewers, but for adults willing to sit with the discomfort, it remains one of the most powerful faith films ever made.
