📝 Our Review

Diogo Morgado's Jesus is one of the more physically striking portrayals in film history — he has an almost otherworldly presence that works for the role. The film was assembled from footage shot for the History Channel miniseries 'The Bible,' with additional scenes filmed to create a theatrical experience. Roma Downey (who also produced) appears as Mary, bringing maternal warmth to every scene she's in. The strength here is scope: you get the full arc from Nativity to Resurrection in a single sitting. The weakness is also scope — trying to compress the entirety of Jesus's ministry into two hours means everything feels rushed. Miracles happen, disciples are called, and Pharisees plot, but none of it gets the breathing room that the original miniseries provided. The crucifixion sequence is powerful but restrained compared to Gibson's version. Hans Zimmer's score elevates everything it touches. Best suited for church groups wanting a visually impressive overview of the gospel story, or as a gateway for younger viewers before tackling more intense portrayals.
