📝 Our Review

Tanner Maguire plays Tyler Doherty, an eight-year-old cancer patient who addresses his prayers as letters and drops them in the mailbox. It's a simple premise with surprising emotional range. Jeffrey Johnson as the alcoholic mail carrier who starts receiving the letters brings a gruff authenticity to what could have been a one-note role. His gradual transformation — from annoyance to curiosity to something deeper — is the film's narrative engine. The child performances are strong across the board, which is crucial since kids carry most of the screen time. The film doesn't flinch from the reality of pediatric cancer — Tyler gets sick, loses his hair, misses school. But it also captures the resilience of children in crisis with an honesty that avoids exploitation. Robyn Lively as Tyler's mother conveys the specific exhaustion of a parent managing a terminally ill child while trying to hold her family together. The ending will make most viewers cry. Based on a true story (the real Tyler's letters were found by his mail carrier), the film has a specificity and warmth that elevates it above similar inspirational fare.
